PRECEPTOR GIFT IDEAS

Apr 04, 2023

Preceptors, who are advanced practice nurses and medical doctors, are crucial to the education and training of those aspiring to be nurse practitioners. They serve as mentors, guides, and role models for the next generation of nurse practitioners. Giving your preceptors thoughtful and heartfelt gifts as a token of gratitude is always a good idea. Here are some preceptor gift suggestions that are sure to make them feel valued and appreciated: When selecting a gift, keep in mind to take into account their personal preferences, interests, and work environment.

  1. Personalized thank you notes or cards expressing your gratitude and appreciation for their guidance and support are one of the greatest gifts sometimes the most meaningful gift can be a heartfelt thank you note. Take the time to write a personalized note expressing your gratitude for their guidance and support.
  2. Gift cards to their favorite stores, restaurants, or coffee shops can be a great way to show your appreciation. This gives them the freedom to choose what they want and the opportunity to treat themselves to something they enjoy.
  3. A personalized gift, such as a coffee cup, keychain, pen,  stethoscope , or picture frame, can be appreciated by preceptors. Personalization adds a personal touch to the gift and shows that you have put some thought into the gift.
  4. A subscription to a nursing or medical journal.
  5. Gift baskets: A gift basket stocked with their preferred snacks, coffee, or teas can be a thoughtful way to express your gratitude. You can customize the basket to include items that they enjoy and add a personal touch by including a handwritten note.
  6. Items with a nurse practitioner or doctor theme, like a coffee cup, a t-shirt, or a tote bag.
  7. a contribution made in their honor to a nursing or healthcare-related charity.
  8. A Noise-canceling headphone set is a vital piece of equipment when they want to document in a noisy provider’s lounge
  9. Books: If your preceptor is an avid reader, a good book can be an excellent gift. Consider getting them a book on a topic they are passionate about, or a bestseller they have been wanting to read.
  10. Gift baskets such as Bath product baskets, Spa, massage, chocolate baskets, or fruit baskets.
  11. Desk Accessories: A thoughtful desk accessory, such as a pen holder, paperweight, or desk organizer, can make a great gift for a preceptor. This can help them keep their workspace organized and functional
  12. A professional leather medical bag or tote to carry their equipment and supplies.
  13.  A high-quality stethoscope with noise-cancellation technology for better accuracy and clarity.
  14. Personalized scrubs or lab coats with their name or initials.
  15. A smartwatch or fitness tracker helps them keep track of their health and fitness goals.
  16. A subscription to a nursing or medical journal to keep them up-to-date on the latest research and trends.
  17. A gift certificate to a restaurant or food delivery service to help them enjoy a meal without having to cook after a long day

Always double-check with the organization to see if a gift to an individual employee is acceptable. Some organizations may only allow cookies or fruits in a common area for all employees to share. During clinical rotation, you may watch and see what the preceptor may need that you can afford. It is only a gesture to show your appreciation; I am sure that, as a nurse practitioner student, you may be on a tight budget, so there is no need to stress yourself. Whether you choose to give a personalized gift, a gift card, a book, or a heartfelt thank-you note, the gesture is sure to be appreciated. Remember, it's not the size or cost of the gift that matters, but the thought behind it. Good luck with finding that great gift for your awesome preceptor.
